Our Story
Where it all Started
This all started for us back in 2018. My wife and I were looking to plant 30 rose bushes in our front yard. Realizing this was going to be a large investment, and knowing neither of us had green thumbs, I started researching how to take care of rose bushes. I was not about to let these things die and have to buy more. Through my research I came across worm castings and their natural benefits. Needless to say, I was blown away.
Can't Beat the Worms
When comparing worm castings to chemical fertilizers, it wasn’t even a debate. With chemical fertilizers, you had to make 4 applications a year, and in some cases 6. With worm castings, and it’s natural slow release of nutrients, no more than 2 applications were needed per year. But that wasn’t all. I found that by building my soil organically year after year, one day I could reach a point where only 1 application a year, or less, would be necessary. Not only would this save on time, but it was going to save on my wallet. I was sold.
For the Planet
To be honest, this was a very selfish approach at first. But as I continued to research, I began to realize how harmful chemical fertilizers were - not only to our soil, but also to our planet. I was shocked. Chemical fertilizers are like drugs. Giving plants a quick fix of nutritional stimulation, but decimating all organic life in the process. In the end, your soil would be so degraded that you wouldn’t be able to plant anything without relying on chemical fertilizers. Whereas worm castings bring life back to your soil - the way God intended. My soil was becoming a living, breathing ecosystem again. Completely self-sustaining. And after four years watching my lawn and rose bushes thrive with very little maintenance, I decided I couldn’t keep this a secret. I had to tell the world. I had to be part of the solution.
We decided to launch Brown Banana Organics in 2022 to help other homeowners reclaim their lawn and find the joy and ease in gardening again.

Having worked over 20 years in the film, television and AV industry, I had no desire to become a horticulturist. Like I mentioned above, I discovered the beauty of worm castings by accident, while trying to take care of my own home. I wanted my home to look beautiful, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of time or money doing it. Gardening was a means to an end. Naturally, the problem solver that I am, I wanted to figure out ways to garden quick and cheap. What can I do to set it and forget it? Enter in worm castings. And the story is history. I became so obsessed and fascinated with the benefits of worms and their castings, that I had to tell the world and be part of the solution. I never knew gardening could be so fun, while also bringing so much benefit to the communities around us!
